How to get software job in bad economy

How to get software job in bad economy

how to find a job in a bad

economy so this is going to be a free

flow video I'm just going to talk to you

about my ideas I have not made a script

for this I'm going to talk to you from

my heart today okay so let's get into it

now a little bit background about me

guys I came to us in 2011 I was 19 years

old when he came to America and I've

seen a lot I've seen a lot of summers in

America and I've seen up and downs I've

been through two or three precedents now

so I kind of understand how things work

and I want to let you know one thing

that us is a cyclic market so sometimes

things are ups and some sometimes things

are down so I've seen things when you

know 2012 to 2014 2015 when maybe things

were like getting up because you know

2008 recession you know it was coming

out of it so 11 to 145 I would say was a

time when things were going up so 2015

to 2018 was like a really good time when

you know things were doing really well

2018 end of it I remember like the stock

market and everything was down like I

said earlier I've gone through a few

precedents you know Obama then Trump

Obama twice then Trump then Biden and

then again uh most likely 2025 it's

going to be Trump guys and here is my

analysis how things were over the last

10 years when it was Obama things were

coming up you know 2011 to 2015 you know

things were coming up when Trump came

you know I'm going to be honest with you

I felt like economy was much better when

Trump was here he did lower the taxes I

remember him coming into the office and

suddenly my paycheck in like I remember

January or February of that year went up

and I was like what happened I didn't

get the raise yet and so apparently the

taxes had changed and you know I was

getting more of my income back and so

during that time I saw a lot of

companies doing well and stuff like that

and then pandemic happened and then

Biden happened well last two years

economy has been very difficult for sure

as the interest rates went up and now

that they are really high companies are

having a hard time borrowing money and

so you know it's it's tough time for

companies right now so they're holding

on to their cash they are holding on to

them that's why there are a lot of

layoffs right now and that is what

causing a lot of layoffs so how do you

navigate this so number one thing you

need to understand how can I maximize my

time in America the biggest problem for

people is they don't have enough time in

America they have these deadlines like 3

months 6 months a year these deadlines

will break you and this is what hurts

people in the long term because these

deadlines put you in pressure and you're

not able to handle the pressure of this

and then you can't also handle the

pressure of finding a job finding a job

in itself is a full-time job guys so

understand one thing you need to prepare

yourself mentally for next 6 months to

year if you're going through a layoff if

you're graduating you need to plan for

about 6 months to a year now there are

ways how to figure out there's day CPT

there is on opt you can start a business

and you know do Consulting you can do

this thing so you can stop your clocks

on multiple ways those videos I'll make

if not if you don't know just send me an

email at Omars gmail.com and I'll answer

your questions but what I want to talk

to you about is how do you find a job if

you're going through a layoff or it's a

bad economy now I've gone through it in

2018 I got laid off and then Market was

not really great at that point of time

you know especially for like

construction I had to work really hard

to find jobs and then not only that

immigration was an issue companies were

not willing to apply for your

immigration so here is the thing if

you're going through a layoff then you

already have some experience and that is

what you are going to use for your

advantage to find your next opportunity

because understand if you apply for

companies which have same positions or

same requirements what you are doing in

your previous company your chances of

finding a job are very very high now if

you don't have a job or you don't have

an experience that's going to be a

challenge now you need to figure out

what projects to put on your resume what

certifications to go through so that you

can crack that first opportunity okay so

let's talk about here more of how to

find a job how to get back on your feet

after a Le off or in a bad economy

number one thing you need to do fix your

resume and get your resume to a point

where you can start sending it you

should be confident about your resume

hire a coach if you need to and get it

done now once you get a good resume you

need to start applying consistently I'm

going to tell you the story of how I got

laid off on March a and I believe May

19th of that year I was back in office

so that was like what you know April and

May that's literally like 70 days guys

70 days from the day I got laid off I

was back in an office working now here

is the trick what I did number one thing

you can take a weekend off if you're

laid off recently you can take one

weekend off that's all the time you get

as an immigrant you need to get back on

the mindset after one weekend now that

Monday I sat down I took a notepad and a

pen and I wrote down that exactly what

kind of job I want and you know this is

what it attracts you have to write down

what you want so I wrote down I'm going

to have a job that's paying me $60,000

I'm driving less than 20 minutes from my

home and my job is flexible people at my

job love me and uh you know everybody

loves me I get opportunities to grow

every day and my boss loves me he always

wants to give me a promotion and I wrote

it down and I put it on my refrigerator

and I written that I'm going to have job

I think 1 May or something I think no no

no I had told myself like 60 days I'm

going to have a job you know me May 9th

or something like that I said I'm going

to have a job I'll come back to that

thing now I had about $7 $8,000 saved up

during that time and so now I start

consistently applying I'm like okay what

is in my control in my control is I can

be consistent about 2 to three maybe 4

hours in a day to apply for jobs so

every day I would go you know I remember

I was laid off right so I hadn't told my

friends or family yet and I was just

going through it by myself so I would go

and sit at a Starbucks and I would

continuously apply for those jobs man I

was hammering it down so 10 15 jobs

which are exactly what I was doing which

were exactly close to what I was doing

before because I knew that's what was my

fastest way to get in and now at this

point of time I didn't even care they're

going to do my sponsorship or not so you

know I would say no or yes whatever it

doesn't matter whatever you got to do

you got to do if you have to say no to

get in the door it's okay say yes say no

it doesn't matter get in the door that's

what I did so I remember talking to

going through this for about 40 50 days

and about 40 50 days later I started

getting interviews because by that time

every day I was was doing 1015

application 1015 application and you see

unlike a lot of people I didn't had

resolve of sitting for 8 hours I knew I

could only sit for 2 to 3 hours maybe 4

hours max so I would say 2 to 4 hours

depending on the day but I would have it

in 10 to 15 jobs I would apply for 10 to

15 jobs and I'm done for the day now I

would go out and I would do my things I

was running a business at that point of

time a small business I was doing

something on the side you know I just

wanted to do you know wasn't making any

money but I just wanted to grow you know

and so I was pursuing a passion at that

point of time and then what I did with

the Seven Grand I had saved I started

traveling a little bit you know on the

weekends I would make a trip to

Washington DC Memphis Tennessee I would

go see some of my friends and that kind

of like you know kept me going that gave

me the energy to stay in business uh you

know because you need something that

gives you hope so don't just put

yourself in a corner and this thing just

go see out America do all these things

and get back to work now how did I apply

for jobs here are the things I did so I

was applying I was looking at LinkedIn I

would look for people who have already

worked in the metro area who have worked

in different companies who are currently

working and I would find their ex

companies so I would make a list of the

companies they have worked at XYZ

Stonefield Farmers this that all those

things I would make a list and then I

would write them down and this way every

day I would collect 30 40 names of these

companies and then I would also go and

definitely look at like you know civil

engine jobs in Detroit area and stuff

like that then I would also go to my

companies my colleges handshake I would

go and find companies there so no matter

what I would go and find companies

because finding companies is the hard

part finding opening positions is easy

Once you find the name of the companies

so I would find these companies then I

would go to their careers page and I

would look for open positions and if

they don't have an open position I would

look for an hr's email I would copy that

email and I would send an email and this

is exact script I used to say my subject

used to be employment opportunity and

then I would say hey kindly find the

attached resume for my profile I'm

looking for an entry-level position at

your company I look forward to hearing

from you that's it keep it simple Omar

jagar my number boom done so every day

I'm sending 105 emails like that and

applying for 1015 positions now look at

how many seeds I have planted in 4050

days guys in 4050 days I had planted 400

500 600 applications in the industry and

boom I started getting calls now and so

I remember a company called me on a

Saturday morning I went there I suited

and booted I went there you want to wear

a suit man if you're not wearing a suit

for an interview what are you doing why

are you in going for an interview don't

waste your time you have to wear a suit

for an interview now the story is I went

there I Charmed the heck out of them I

spoke well and they asked me like you

know what's happening why are you

leaving your old company and then you

know I'll talk to you about it I told

them that my company had laid me off

because they didn't had enough work but

the real reason was they didn't want to

do my H1B salaries were higher they

didn't want to pay me that and they had

laid me off the way I told this company

is like hey my company has told me that

they are about to lay me off because

they don't have enough board which was

the reason they gave me but in the

meantime I'm going to go out there and

find a job so they were excited like

when you have a job they're not going to

bully into your lower salary or

something like that maybe a good idea

not to give all the details you know you

if you're laid off and then it's public

you put it on your LinkedIn and stuff

like that then you got to be you got to

be honest but then my suggestion is

don't show all your cards because you

know as an immigrant it's really hard

guys you know I wish I wish you know I

want to be honest sometimes um you know

I don't want to lie but then being an

immigrant and the kind of rejections I

got sometimes you just have to play that

game and I'm sorry if I have to send you

in that direction but be smart don't lie

like crazy you know don't lie about your

experience and stuff like that it can be

a soft lie it's fine you know it can be

wide lies so taking back okay I do that

interview but here's the thing it was a

two people company and I did not like

that the the place where they showed me

where I'm going to sit and work it was

depressing you know and the person they

told me like there used to be a person

like your age who was working here and

uh she recently quit because she wanted

to move close to her husband and Lancing

I could tell she hated being there and

that's why she quit because the setup

and stuff like that was just so H

depressing it's like a corner of the

room there's nothing exciting happening

there and so they gave me the offer by

the way like I do an interview and

Sunday afternoon he sends me an offer it

lands in my spam so guess what so I

don't see the offer till Tuesday and

Tuesday morning I go for an interview

for another

company how crazy is that now here's the

thing you know Tuesday morning I go for

an interview and I really like I really

like the company and Tuesday he he he

calls me he's like hey you need to give

me an answer that we have sent you an

offer and man I don't have the guts to

say no but then I'm like man I don't

like this company do I really want to

work there but but I don't have a job

here what if I don't get a job on next

30 days or 60 days I had very few less I

had maybe like 60 more days left and so

if I didn't get a job I would be in

problem so guess what now it's about May

8 9th something like that I don't

remember exactly but then I've done this

interview at another company and I tell

this company that hey you know what I'm

sorry but I'm not going to take the

offer and I hadn't even gotten the next

offer yet but I knew in my heart that I

don't want to work there and so I get

this new offer and they give me a little

bit more money you know they give me $2

$3,000 more than what I wanted and then

they tell me that hey we want you to

start as soon as possible so I told them

I need e verification and stuff like

that and boom within 10 days I was

sitting in that office and I was working

for them guys literally this all

happened within like one week and they

made it happen for me so the right

company you see remember this one

statement I want to tell you when your

time comes and the company where you're

supposed to be working you can't say

enough wrong things to that company and

you can't say enough right things to a

company which is not going to Happ hire

you so remember that the company where

you are supposed to work cannot say

enough wrong things from them to stop

you from hiring and the company you not

supposed to work you can't see enough

right things it doesn't matter whatever

you say it's not going to be meant to be

so taking a step back all I want to tell

you is during that 60 days 70 days the

way I kept my mind sane was I was around

people who were in life where I wanted

to be I had really good mentors and they

were guiding me number two I had not

told a lot of people about me not having

a job because I knew people are going to

give me crap they always going to ask me

have you find a job yet what's happening

and stuff like that so I didn't want all

that drama I didn't want your sympathy I

don't want your empathy I just want to

be focusing on myself so I went into

myself I went inside and I started

looking at me and started growing myself

and then a little bit of travel also

helped me it opened up my mind you know

it told me why I'm in America because I

wanted to travel eventually I wanted to

live a great life and so those

application guess what not only that

this is the last thing I'm going to end

here the applications I did those 400

500 application so guess what I'm

working at this company I'm working at

this company it's been 2 months and then

I get a call from my company that hey

you applied to us about 2 months ago and

we want you to come for an interview now

I didn't have the guts to say no because

it's a great company and then you know

the the manager who called me he was so

kind on the phone and I was like how can

I say no to this guy so I was like I'm

not going to take this offer I'm just

going to go on a Friday afternoon I'm

going to interview and I'll come back

that was my plan in the interview I

didn't even wear a tie I never have went

without a tie for an interview so I just

wore my jacket and it went so this is

the first ever interview I went only

with a jacket so I wear my suit I go

there without a tie and then I did the

interview and I loved it and I went into

the office it's 26th floor I have the

view of the Canada uh River and

everything it was great and I loved it

guys I really really really loved it

guess what he gives me an offer boom he

gives me a $10,000 raise from my company

guys can you imagine he gives me a

$10,000 raise not only that he says

he'll do my immigration and because it's

a bigger company I felt safer that hey

you know at that point of time small

companies you know I had I had a bad

experience and then also h-1bs I didn't

knew like if H1B would be accepted for a

small company or not it was 2018 2019 it

was a different time frame 2020 and

later H1B changed but at that point of

time I was in a small company so I knew

this company has done a lot of

immigration they had done green cards

they have done h-1bs so I wanted to be

where the heat is I wanted to be where

I'm not going to be a guinea pig I

wanted to be where they have done it

before so I take that offer boom fast

forward 6 years down the road guys I'm

still working for the same company I

love working for my company I have grown

a lot I have gotten like couple of

promotions and not only that I'm on like

certain different committees and

organizations and that has allowed me to

be who I am and it has allowed me to you

know explore my talents guess what I'm

not the person who usually quits jobs

okay I'm not a person who actually quits

if something is working for me I usually

don't quit so if I was today if that

first company hadn't laid me off and I I

didn't go through that 60 70 days

without a job I wouldn't be in life

today where I am guys I would still be

stuck in that company they might have

done H1B for me and I would have

complained about life thinking there is

nothing better in life this job has

opened my mind and the things I went

through those 60 70 days of unemployment

where I had to battle think about food

plan about money that's what builds your

character and that's what made me who I

am today you know building content

coming here making videos for you guys

you know working at top companies and

stuff like that that's who I became so

all I want to say to you is if you're

going through this challenge grow

through it don't go through it you know

it's going to make you a better

individual you're going to be a better

man better woman coming out of this and

look at this as an opportunity to grow

yourself look every adversity has a seed

of equal or greater benefit in that use

this you know like an arrow when you

pull the bow behind only place you can

go is further only thing you can go is

ahead so work on that I hope I made

sense it might be a little bit long

video but I really enjoyed talking to

you I'll see you in the next one peace

out
